Νεοελληνική ετυμολογία: νέα δεδομένα και ετυμολογική αναθεώρηση λεξιλογίου της Νεοελληνικής Κοινής

Περίληψη

This article discusses the results of our etymological research based on the fundamental principle of the Historical Dictionary of Modern Greek (ILNE), according to which correct etymology can only be achieved through total examination and comparison of both available sources and dialectal data (see principles in the Νew Manual of Regulations of ILNE). We present fresh etymological data and new etymological proposals for words of Standard Modern Greek vocabulary, such as ξυρίζει-ξουρίζει (ο αέρας) ‘for cold air, it blows’, κοκό ‘egg, dessert’, πατσαβούρα ‘rag’, ρέντα ‘a run of success, luck’, ξενοκοιτάζω ‘I seek for extramarital relations’.
