Modern Greek slang vocabulary, taboo words, offensiveness, taboonessΠερίληψη
In this work we explore ways of measuring the degree of offensiveness carried by slang words in Modern Greek slang. We understand offensiveness as the fluctuation of the acceptability degree of slang elements in a given social setting and we have already examined offensiveness of MG taboo lexemes, by considering the influence of evaluative morphology and gender alteration on word forms. In this work we focus on the MG taboo lexemes per se. So, following similar studies for English we conducted a questionnaire-based survey in order to measure the offensiveness of MG lexemes that refer to different taboo topics such as sex, body parts, scatology, gender, race, age, religion, disabilities etc.
