The paper adapts to modern data a well-established theoretical view which argues that journalistic discourse from reconstitution of democracy to Memorandums of Understanding period has been characterized by an attitude of virtual sympathy or high illusory intimacy towards its diverse audiences. This attitude, which was formed and represented by specific and categorized linguistic forms, served mainly two purposes, the one concerning the more effective manipulation of "public opinion" and the second in promoting the commercial function.
