Τhe present paper involves a theoretical and applied research concerning the degree of use, selection and practicality/functionality of the learned door sign elksate/oθisate “pull/push”, which is a fossilized survival from Ancient Greek (cf. the Modern Greek synonym pair travikste/sprokste). By using data extracted from several corpora/dictionaries and carrying out a special experiment, we conclude that: (a) the accessibility to the learned elements is mostly education-related, and (b) the ideology-driven learned landscape should be revisited under a more linguistic perspective.
